Horses Smith — For European Buyers

Elite British Showjumpers, Delivered Across Europe

UK-produced and UK-sourced showjumping prospects, owned and developed directly by Harriet Smith — with the full UK→EU export handled for you, post-Brexit.

Buying Across the Channel, Without the Worry

Since Brexit, buying a horse from the UK has acquired a reputation for being complicated. Export paperwork, TRACES registration, health certificates, customs — for many European buyers it is enough to make them hesitate before they have even seen a horse.

We understand that hesitation, because we hear it from buyers across Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France every week. The truth is that the complexity is real, but it is ours to handle, not yours.

Every horse we offer is one we have owned, ridden, and produced ourselves. There are no brokers inflating the price, no anonymous dealers, and no surprises on arrival.

Our role is to make buying an elite British showjumper feel as straightforward for a buyer in Hamburg or Lyon as it would for one an hour down the road — honest representation, and the entire export managed end to end.

Owner & Producer

Meet Harriet Smith

Harriet Smith is the founder of Horses Smith, a private collection of carefully selected showjumping horses and future breeding prospects, chosen with a clear focus on quality, pedigree, performance, and market appeal.

She is not a broker, and Horses Smith is not a business built on volume. Each horse is sourced with intent, produced with care, and represented with complete honesty. The collection reflects Harriet's eye for athleticism, presence, blood, and the kind of natural quality that cannot be manufactured.

Based in Kent, England, Harriet has built Horses Smith around a simple belief: exceptional horses deserve exceptional representation. Her experience across breeding, young horse production, and performance gives her a deep understanding of what creates not only a talented horse, but one with true presence, value, and future.

For clients across Europe, that means confidence in both the horse and the name behind it — and a UK→EU export process handled with the same care as the horse itself.

Because at Horses Smith, every horse is personally chosen, deeply understood, and offered with intention.

Questions from European Buyers

We've answered the questions we hear most from buyers in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France considering a UK horse post-Brexit.

01How does buying a UK horse and exporting to the EU work after Brexit?
It is more straightforward than most buyers expect, because we handle it. Once you have chosen your horse, we arrange the pre-export veterinary work, register the move on TRACES (the EU's official trade control system), obtain the health certificates required for entry into the EU, and book specialist equine transport. You receive a horse that is fully documented and cleared — we manage the post-Brexit paperwork from start to finish.
02How is the horse transported to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium or France, and who handles it?
We work with established equine transport companies who move horses between the UK and mainland Europe every week. Depending on the destination, horses travel by road and Channel crossing or, for longer distances, by air. We coordinate the entire journey, keep you updated at each stage, and deliver door-to-door to your yard. Typical road transport to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium or France is completed within a few days of departure.
03Do you handle the export paperwork — TRACES and health certificates?
Yes. This is exactly the part most buyers worry about, and it is the part we take off your hands entirely. We arrange the official veterinary inspections, the TRACES registration, and all health certification needed for the horse to enter the EU legally and smoothly. You do not need to navigate the bureaucracy yourself.
04Can I buy on video, or arrange a trial before committing?
Many of our European clients begin with video — full work, conformation, and honest commentary on each horse — supported by veterinary history and pedigree. Because every horse is one we have produced and know intimately, you are not buying blind. You are also very welcome to travel to Kent to ride and try before you commit.
05What happens once the horse arrives in Europe?
We do not disappear after the sale. We stay in contact and remain available to advise on settling in, management, and the horse's ongoing production. Our reputation across the continent depends on horses that arrive exactly as described and owners who are glad they bought from us.
06What are prices, and what currency do you work in?
Prices are available in EUR on application. Every horse is individual, so rather than list figures we prefer to understand what you are looking for and then talk you through the horses that genuinely fit, openly and without pressure. Heights are given in centimetres, with hands shown in brackets for reference.
