A small market that buys carefully
Colombian showjumping is a close community and word travels, which means a horse sold dishonestly is a problem that follows the seller. That is the way we would rather trade anyway. Every horse here was bred or brought on by us on one yard, with published pedigrees, honest video and a price on the site, and the sold horses stay up afterwards as a record of how their plans actually ended.
Importing to Colombia
Import runs through ICA, the national agricultural authority, and needs an import permit, pre-export isolation and testing in the UK, an export health certificate and quarantine on arrival. Horses usually fly into Bogotá. Altitude is a genuine consideration that a European seller should raise and most do not: a horse coming from sea level to Bogotá at over 2,600 metres needs time and sensible management to acclimatise, and that is worth planning for rather than discovering.
The European alternative
As with the rest of the region, a competition horse bought for results is often better left in Europe, stabled in Belgium or the Netherlands and campaigned on a circuit with the classes and the ranking points. It sidesteps import duty and quarantine entirely, and it avoids the altitude question until you actually want the horse at home.
Prices in GBP or EUR on application, not COP. Horses measured in centimetres (hands in brackets). ICA import costs and duty are additional.
