Harriet follows the American circuit closely, and not from a distance. She watches the careers of Laura Kraut, McLain Ward and Kent Farrington the way other people follow a team, season after season, noting which horses come through, how they are produced, and how long they last once they get there. What It Actually Costs, All In
Nothing about the cost of bringing a horse home should be a surprise, so here is the whole of it. Our shipper quotes the journey from our yard in Kent to the door of American quarantine, and for a gelding landing in New York that comes to just under £10,000: £4,300 for the flight out of Liege, £350 to get him there from Kent, £250 stabling in Europe, £700 of veterinary work and blood tests, about £1,400 of export certificates, customs clearance and the Calais border inspection, and roughly £2,950 for the three days of USDA quarantine on arrival.
Three things sit on top of that. Since July 2026 a 10% United States tariff is charged on the price of the horse itself, which on an expensive horse can exceed the entire shipping bill. There is a customs processing fee of a third of a percent. And there is the haul from the quarantine facility to your barn, which is purely a question of distance.
The one figure that varies most is nothing to do with the horse quality and everything to do with sex. A gelding walks through. A mare over two years old goes into an additional 14 to 18 days of quarantine for contagious equine metritis, and a stallion over two needs 30 to 45 days, because he has to be test bred to two mares who are then tested themselves. That is several thousand pounds and about a month between two horses bought on the same day.
Our import planner will cost any horse in the collection against your own figure and your own arrival airport, and it shows every line with its source. When you are ready to move a particular horse we get you a written quote from John Parker International and go through it line by line.
How Our Horses Are Priced
You are not buying a better horse as the number rises. You are buying more evidence, and evidence is the only thing that is genuinely scarce. Every horse carries its own published price and sits in one of four categories: the category tells you the price territory, the horse’s own page gives you the figure. Every price is agreed and invoiced in pounds sterling. The conversions below are a guide at current exchange rates, not a quote.
A pedigree, and little else yet. Embryos and the youngest foals, where there is no conformation to assess and no movement to watch. It suits a buyer who already breeds and wants a cross they could not otherwise reach.
A well made young horse from proven blood, at an age where nobody can honestly tell you what it will jump. That uncertainty is not a defect being hidden from you; it is the reason the price is what it is. It suits a buyer who intends to produce the horse themselves.
Old enough to show you something. The horse has grown into its frame, so how it moves, how it uses itself and what it is like to handle can be seen rather than guessed. This is also where the damline begins to do the heavy lifting.
Evidence you can look up. A competition record, or a mare whose value is what she has already produced. At this level you are paying to remove the uncertainty the younger horses carry, and for the scarcity of the horse's pedigree.
