British-Produced Showjumpers, Delivered to France

Horses Smith produces elite showjumping sport horses in Kent, England, thirty miles from the Channel, for sale into France. It is the shortest crossing we make, and we handle the entire export.

Why buy a UK-produced showjumper for the French market

France is the home of the Selle Français and of a jumping culture that runs from the Grand National circuit and Fontainebleau to the breeding heartland of Normandy. French riders judge a horse on blood, carefulness and the quality of its education, and ours are produced with exactly that eye: patient flatwork, gymnastic jumping and honest exposure to competition before they are offered. Buying from Kent simply widens the pool of correctly produced horses at fair value, from a yard that is closer to Calais than it is to London.

Importing a sport horse to France, the real logistics

Since Brexit a UK horse enters France as a third-country import, and we manage every step. We arrange the pre-export veterinary inspection and blood tests, register the move on TRACES NT, obtain the export health certificate, and book an EU-approved equine transporter. Our yard sits in Kent, so a horse bound for France leaves in the morning, crosses by ferry or Eurotunnel, is cleared at the border control post on arrival, and can be stabled in northern France the same day. Paris, Normandy and the Loire are a day's drive; the south is two.

How Horses Smith works

French clients usually begin on video with honest commentary, backed by full veterinary history and pedigree, and are welcome to ride and try in Kent, an easy day trip from Paris or Lille. Independent pre-purchase vetting by a veterinarian of your choice is always encouraged. We then handle the export paperwork, customs and white-glove transport to your yard, and stay available for aftercare once the horse is home. Harriet communicates on WhatsApp, which translates in both directions, so you are welcome to write in French.

Prices in EUR on application. Horses measured in centimetres (hands in brackets).

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a UK showjumper and have it delivered to France?
Yes. We sell for delivery anywhere in France and manage the full UK-to-EU export, paperwork and specialist transport to your yard.
How long does transport from the UK to France take?
Northern France is often reached the same day. Our yard in Kent is a short drive from the Channel, and horses cross by ferry or Eurotunnel with an EU-approved transporter. Paris and Normandy are about a day; the south of France is usually two.
Do you handle TRACES and the export health certificate?
Yes. We complete the veterinary inspection and bloods, register the move on TRACES NT, and obtain the export health certificate required for entry into the EU through the French border control post.
Can I have the horse vetted before I buy?
Yes, and we encourage it. You may instruct an independent veterinarian, in France or in the UK, for a pre-purchase examination, and we share each horse's full veterinary and competition records.
Can I enquire in French?
Yes. Harriet handles enquiries on WhatsApp, which translates messages in both directions, so write in French and she will reply. Studbook papers and pedigrees are always shared exactly as issued.
