SoldWe bought Sybil as a rising 8-year-old for my teenage daughter, who needed a safe but competitive horse with the temperament to take an amateur through the higher jumping heights. Harriet was professional, honest, and incredibly easy to deal with throughout the entire process. She genuinely cares about her horses and is committed to matching them with the right homes. Sybil has been everything Harriet described, and more. He has the most wonderful nature, exactly the combination of talent and kindness we were looking for. He's simply lovely, and we couldn't be happier. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Harriet at Horses Smith to anyone looking for a quality, well-matched horse.

Harriet on Sybil
Purchased as a rising 8-year-old for Sue Knight's daughter, Lauren, Sybil was exactly the type of horse every ambitious amateur rider hopes to find, talented, genuine, competitive and kind.
Before his sale, Sybil had already shown his quality under the Horses Smith banner, including competing at LGCT London in 2024, where he placed 7th twice. It was an incredible experience and a real reflection of the horse's ability, consistency and exceptional attitude.
What made Sybil so special was not only his talent, but his temperament. He was the sort of horse that combined quality with kindness, careful, genuine and straightforward, with a nature that gave confidence as well as results. He was exactly the kind of horse capable of stepping into an amateur home and continuing to progress.
Since joining Sue Knight's family, Sybil has continued on that path with Lauren, who has now gone on to qualify for the Members Cup Nationals with him. That progression says everything about the kind of horse he is: competitive enough to perform, but honest and generous enough to help build a real partnership.

“Produced here, competed at Longines Global Champions Tour London, sold in 2025 to the home that suited him. He has since qualified for the Member Cup Nationals.”
Sybil is one of those horses who will always be part of the Horses Smith story.
A striking 2017 chestnut gelding by the legendary Diamant de Semilly, Sybil combined quality, scope and presence with the kind of character that made him an incredibly rewarding horse to produce. During his time with us, he developed through the levels and went on to compete at Longines Global Champions Tour London.
His pedigree carries some of the most influential names in European sport horse breeding. Diamant de Semilly needs little introduction, having competed at the highest level himself before becoming one of the defining sires of modern showjumping. Sybil’s dam, Fadora, also comes from a family with proven international performance, including horses competing through CCI4*-S eventing and relatives jumping at 1.60m level.
But pedigrees only tell part of the story.
Sybil was a horse we knew, produced and believed in. In 2025, the right home came along with Sue Knight and her daughter Lauren, and we made the decision to sell him. Seeing him continue his journey with a family who genuinely appreciates him is exactly what we want for every horse that leaves us.
Sold in 2025 - but very much still part of our story.

The assessment
Sybil is not for sale. He was sold in 2025, and this page is a record rather than a listing.
We bought him, produced him, and campaigned him ourselves. In 2024 he competed at Longines Global Champions Tour London under the Horses Smith banner and placed seventh, twice.
He was then sold, as a rising eight year old, to Sue Knight for her teenage daughter Lauren.
That order matters. A horse being produced for turnover does not go to LGCT London first. It is an expensive, high pressure outing with no resale logic behind it. He went because that was where his production had reached, and because we wanted to know what he could do.
What he did afterwards matters more. Lauren has since qualified for the Members Cup Nationals with him. He did not peak on the day he was sold and then tail off. He kept climbing, with a young amateur rider, in a family home.
He went to an amateur teenager because he was the right horse for an amateur teenager, not because that was the best price available for him.
